Located next door to Kuta, Seminyak is a beach resort area on the south of Bali with luxury hotels, hip bars and several cool cafes. Seminyak definitely has a tumblr-esque summer vibe and every bar/cafe you visit is always insta-worthy. And while you may not gain much traditional balinese culture here, the modern and contemporary art makes up for. But do be warned, visiting Seminyak definitely took a hefty toll on my bank balance - but its definitely achievable on a backpacking budget.
ACCOMODATION
CAPSULE HOSTEL SEMINYAK
If you find yourself in Bali do yourself a favor and put this hostel on your list of places to stay as its a muuuuuust. You won't regret it. I've been staying in hostels when I travel for over 3 years now and this is easily one of the best I have ever stayed at! Pretty much everyone staying here is up for a party which makes it so easy to meet new people, especially for solo backpackers. The hostel itself is super clean and I can't even explain how comfy the beds are and at a reasonable size they are too. But the unique aspect which drew me in initially, were the little capsules you sleep in which are perfect if you want a little privacy. Its in a perfect location too as the beach, local restaurants and bars are only a 5 minute walk away. If you do make a visit, make sure you’re there on a Sunday for the hostel coach trip to single Fin bar in Uluwatu. And at £7 a night you can't go wrong!
FOOD & DRINK
Potato Head Beach Bar
What better way to spend your time in Seminyak than lounging by the pool drinking cocktails to some ambient music? It’s impeccable design and lively exterior is one of several reasons why so many people love it so much here. The atmosphere here is truly indescribable and the staff are so courteous and friendly. If you're a music lover you're in for a treat, as there are often several different global DJ’s playing in the evenings such as Disclosure and Mark Ronson to name a few. Entrance itself is free, but getting a bite to eat or even a drink can set you back a few pennies so don’t come empty handed! I highly recommend the Balinese Pimms that they have to offer - seen above.
Strawberry Fields Cafe
I loved coming here with fellow backpackers for lunch or just a drink on the way back from the beach as it is the perfect place to unwind and chill. The food and drink is pretty diverse and taste’s amazing and the interior is really well designed. The atmosphere is super laid back and the ambience has been consistently impressive even among all the restaurants within the Seminyak/Canggu area! Definitely worth checking out!
Cafe Organic Bali
Came across the little cafe as I just came out of Potato Head - absolute bliss. You can eat so many healthy + fresh foods here which is why cafe organic is probably my favourite place for breakfast in Bali. I ate several acai bowls and the mushroom breakfast! The balinese organic take on the standard eggs benedict is also incredible. Make sure to get in early -- the cafe has indoor and outdoor seating but is quite small and really popular, so you may have to wait for a table. Alike Potato Head it is fairly expensive especially on a backpacking budget - opt for tap water to save you a bit of wonga!
